Rummel And The Amazing World Of Fairs

After all urban time-lapse videos I’ve seen over the past years, I don't watch all of them any more, but this one is beautiful. Rummel by Christoph Kalck is a beautiful video capturing the atmosphere and style of one of the very large Spring fairs in Germany, the Stuttgarter Frühlingsfest. Rummel is a colorful and bright showcase of a fairground, a maze of stalls and rides, shows and shops for about 1.4 million visitors, as UrbanTick explains it strikingly.

A Flexible Camper With A Vespa Inside

Inspired by the Piaggio APE 50 tricycle, the German designer Cornelius Comanns has designed a one person home for modern travelers.

Review: Pop-Up City Movie Night

Last weekend, some fifty people joined our team for a special and intimate Pop Up City Movie Night at Filmhuis Cavia in Amsterdam. The evening started with the screening of Amsterdam Make-Over 2040, a Tegenlicht documentary by William de Bruijn that reminds us of Amsterdam’s pivotal position in a multi-polar world. Featuring economic geographer Richard […]

Cycle Vest Indicates Speed For Safer Traffic

In order to improve traffic safety for bicycle riders, Mykle Hansen created the so-called Speed Vest. The Speed Vest is a piece of clothing that indicates the speed of a bicycle rider on his or her back. This way other traffic users, such as car drivers, can take bicycle riders into consideration more easily. But […]

Home-In-A-Dumpster

This is absolutely not the first thing you would think of when you come across a dumpster on the streets, but you never know what’s inside. Artist Gregory Lincoln Kloehn (a direct descendent of Abraham Lincoln according to these guys) converted an original green garbage dumpster into, let’s say, an affordable and extremely movable living unit. Although the […]

Rauzier’s Virtual Worlds

French photographer Jean François Rauzier transforms high resolution photos into dream-like, virtual paintings which offer a reflection on reality.

An Inflatable Cathedral

Earlier this year, the British designer with Indian roots Anish Kapoor launched his Leviathan, which is without any doubt his largest ever artwork. Leviathan is a truly enormous cathedral-like space made from inflated PVC. The black inflatable construction with the dimensions of 33 × 99 × 72 meters, temporarily filled the Grand Palais in Paris in May and June. These images by photographer Cyril Sancereau show the immense impact that the giant installation has on the space inside the palace.

Breaking open the mobile printing market, Breezy is a new iPhone app and a GPS printing tool that can seek out nearby partnered printers and send out a […]

Flowers For Steve

Apple Stores around the world have transformed into churches today. Thousands of Apple’s disciples lay flowers in front of its remarkable stores in major cities, from Hong Kong to New York, to commemorate a true genius. Photos: flowers for Steve in Hong Kong, Kansas City, Sydney and London “Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the […]

Onedayshop: Flex To The Max In Retail

A brand new and ultimately flexible shopping initiative has opened its doors in Amsterdam. Onedayshop is a fully accommodated shop that changes concept, products and brand every day. The new concept enables its clients (retailers) to occupy an empty but accommodated retail space in a popular shopping street in Amsterdam and disappear after one, two or […]

Máximo Riera, a practitioner in the medical industry who turned artist, combined high tech 3D modeling technology with excellent craftsmanship to create realistic animal chairs. The exclusive pieces of his furniture were shown during the 100% Design show in London last month. The sculptures reached high levels of detail and authentic texture using CNC (computer numerical […]

Insert ____ Here

Artist Eve Mosher came up with an interactive way for citizens to launch their city improvement ideas in public space. Collaborating with 350.org, her 'Insert ____ Here' project offers big yellow arrows to urbanites that they can place at spots in New York City where they think an environmental change could be made.

Innocent Graffiti Street Art With A Message

Earlier we wrote about this new form of graffiti. Aakash Nihalani seems still busy creating the most brilliant street art without polluting the environment. He uses fluorescent tape to make optical illusion shapes on walls, windows, streets, and cars. With these new art pieces the artist suggest possible transformations in the city without changing the existing […]

Take A Nap In The Sleepbox

Desperately in need of some sleep while waiting in a public area? But you don’t want to look like a homeless guy napping on a bench? The designers of Arch Group totally understand the need for an affordable and comfortable place to sleep and came up with the Sleepbox, a modern and safe sleeping pod that provides necessary rest from fifteen minutes to several hours. The best thing is that it can be placed just about everywhere: at airports, train stations, shopping malls, expo centers, and even on streets!
