Living Large In Narrow Houses
Architect Bassam El-Okeily describes the concept of The Narrow House (see photo below, taken by Tim van de Velde) as follows: “What‘s a house? A space to live, To project our happiness between four walls, Then to spread out our vanity outside these walls. Can there be space for something else? A space for our melancholy, our scars, […]

The Pussycar: An Automodule That Does Wheelies
The Pussycar, or Automodule, was the name of a promotional vehicle made by Jean Pierre Ponthieu in Paris in 1986. Ponthieu is said to be a mad French genius who used to work in advertising, known as the Buckminster Fuller of this field. His Pussycar was described as ‘the car of the year 2000′, which obviously was a misjudgment. […]

Kiosk Decides Whether It's Art Or Fart
We can discuss a lot about the quality of art, but we don’t have to. When surfing around I came across this rather funny kiosk which checks the quality of your artwork. This is how it works. Just pay a small fee and insert an artwork. The machine will automatically determine the artistic value of it. […]

Slide To The Train
It’s officially called a ‘transfer accelerator’ by Dutch railway maintenance company ProRail, but everyone else would say it’s a slide. An awesome slide. Installed next to a stairway at the newly renovated railway station Overvecht in the city of Utrecht, the slide offers travellers the opportunity to quickly reach the railway tracks when they’re in a hurry. But above all, the slide is a great instrument to make the city more playful. The ‘transfer accelerator’ was designed by Utrecht-based firm HIK Ontwerpers, and installed as the final piece of the renovation of the Overvecht railway station.
Review: IN SITU
We destroy and rebuild cities every day. We strive to map every inch and connect every bit of them. We inundate them with signs, messages, sounds. Do we understand them better in the end? Do we know ourselves better? No. We just go on and hope we’ll find some answers. What if we were actively […]
