Theater, Google Street View-Style

Ludovic Nobileau and his theater company Xtnt, have just finished their latest artistic endeavor in the current European Capital of Culture, Mons, Belgium.

The project involves around 900 people, 42 streets, 10 kilometers of photography, plus one and a half years of spontaneous street theatrics, being translated into an interactive performance in the style of Google Street View.

After each scene was set up, the participants were quickly briefed and the displays of organised chaos (through to the downright surreal) were unleashed upon a 360 degree camera, mounted on a small vehicle, which was used to map out Mons’ streets. The manner in which Nobileau and his team hijacked conventional city mapping as a means for theater, demonstrates an interesting, cross-disciplinary initiative.
