Akoha: The World’s First Social Reality Game

I came across something very cute called Akoha, which is described as the 'world's first social reality game'. Akoha (launched into public beta in December) lets you earn points by carrying out missions that involve performing small acts of kindness for others. Missions might include giving someone your favorite book, inviting a friend for drinks, or buying a friend some chocolate. Many more missions are constantly being added as the community and the game grow.

Sexy Tunnel In Amsterdam

Media architecture collective Urban Alliance created 'The Moodwall', close to the Amsterdam Bijlmer subway station. The artwork located in a pedestrian tunnel and has the purpose to make this creepy dark tunnel place a bright spot of social interaction and inpiration.

Go Cloud

Good OS, a company well-known for the Ubuntu-based gOS Linux distribution, has announced its new OS called 'Cloud'. Cloud is a light-weight instant operating system which provides a browser-like working space and enables the browser to perform everything that the desktop is able to perform. Since Cloud just boots into a web browser, it's perfect for netbooks, mobile Internet devices, and PCs for pure Internet use.

Gummo’s Recycled Office

Interior architects of i29 designed the new temporary office of Amsterdam-based advertising agency Gummo using the slogan 'reduce, reuse, recycle'. The designers collected and bought old furniture and accessories at markets and in second hand stores. In order to create a strong effect, they painted them all grey. Small budget, big result.

Mobile Coffee Culture

After we lost the fishmonger and the mobile ice seller in the streets of the post-war modernist neigbourhoods, this flexible coffee bar might be the solution for revitalising the urban athmosphere in boring city scapes. At least I would like to have one in my neighbourhood. The mobile coffee bar designed by Daniel Milchtein is a reconsideration of modern coffee culture. And as we all know, everything temporary is cool nowadays.

City Benches For The Flexible Class

Wow, I'm impressed by the fantastic contemporary city benches Torino-based design studio Adriano Design created. Finally some outdoor seating that meets the wishes of the city dwellers of the 21st century.

Confused Heron Suffers From Climate Change

Looking out the window of my small appartment in Amsterdam, I frequently spot this big heron bird hunting for fish, which is definitely not here to catch. As you might know it rains very often and very much in Holland, so this roof with a badly contructed drainage stytem is full of water except during […]

Pixel Hotel Linz

Trend alert! Flexible hotels seem to be hot. In Austrian town of Linz, one of Europe's 'capitals of culture' for 2009, a flexible design hotel called Pixel Hotel has recently opened its doors. Playing on the idea of pixelation, the rooms of the Pixel Hotel are scattered across the city.

Bye Bye, Bookshelf

Amazon just released Kindle 2. Kindle is an e-book reader for iPhone and iPod Touch. The application allows users to read books using a simple interface. Hundreds of thousands of those e-books are available for download.

CityCAD Software: Stop Masterplanning!

CityCAD is a relatively new software tool for architects trying to become a urbanist or planner. The 1.6 version has just been released. Considering the name, CityCAD shows to be an AutoCAD like application, but actually it is as understandable as a mix between Sim City and Google's Sketch Up.

Phantoms In Public Space

Eindhoven-based design firm EDHV initiated the Phantom Project, addressing the issues of street safety during night time. For LEV magazine they created a series of visuals by projecting images in back alleys during the night.

Dreamy Treehouse Architecture

"Two art movements have recently gained a lot of attention in Japan: the architecture of Terunobu Fujimori and ROJO", is stated on Designboom. Terunobu Fujimori seems to be known as the world’s only 'surreal architect'. Fujimori uses simple, natural materials, like wood. The photos of the treehouses he built attracted my attention, reminding me of childhood. Wouldn't it be great to bring those type of buildings into the busy metropolis?

Invisible Hotel In The Swedish Woods

A great invisible hotel designed by Architects Tham + Videgard Hansson Arkitekter will be hanging hidden in the trees in the woods of Harads, Sweden. The project will be launched within half a year.

Etropolis: Mapping The Creative Region

Etropolis is a platform where all creative activities in Dutch technology city Eindhoven and surroundings are laid out. The concept is initiated by the graduation project of Remco van de Craats in 1999. Seven years later, the project is reanimated and set up again in the context of the creative age. According to the makers there is no other goal than bringing the region's talented people together and creating opportunities.
