Just Landed In…

I came across this great animation made by Jer Thorp. It shows international flight movements not by tracking planes, but by collecting recognizable tweets by passengers. Most people feel the need to let their friends and family know that have landed safely. In addition, they would like to show their network that they just came out of a plane, so they tweet. As explained by Jer:

“This piece looks for tweets containing the phrases ‘just landed in…’ or ‘just arrived in…’. Locations from these tweets are located using MetaCarta’s Location Finder API. The home location for the traveling users are scraped from their Twitter pages. The system then plots these voyages over time.”
