Boarded-Up Storefronts in Austin Become Canvasses for Artists
The Hope for Health initiative brought 40 artists together to brighten up the boarded-up storefronts in Austin and spread messages of hope during the coronavirus lockdown.
Forty artists were commissioned for the Hope for Health campaign in Austin as part of its initiative to support the local creative community during the COVID-19 crisis and lockdown.
Hope for Health aims to offer financial, business and wellbeing support to help local creatives and their businesses throughout the coronavirus crisis through this campaign and their sponsors.
The artists spray-painted murals on the storefronts of local businesses that have been forced to close during the lockdown with messages of hope and togetherness based on the brief “these walls bring us together”. The murals offer passersby and locals something to see and visit while spreading joy and a sense of community.
The closure of many businesses and public spaces has offered a new canvas for art and community spirit and inspired new public art and initiatives. If you are interested in joining, mail info@hopecampaign.org to become a location partner, join as a sponsor, or participate as an artist.
