DHL Lets You Try On Your New Clothes At The Post Office

Delivery company DHL is testing fitting rooms at pick-up points to enable customers to try on clothing bought online.

We’ve all been there: buying clothing online, picking it up at the post office, trying it on at home, and going back to the post office to return your order. Online shopping may be convenient, sometimes it’s just one big hassle. Whether it’s drones, livestream stores or Amazon’s efforts to make shopping as easy as pressing a button — e-commerce and delivery companies alike are breaking their heads on bridging the gap between online and offline. By installing fitting rooms in post offices and other parcel pick-up points, DHL just launched their latest idea to make the so-called “last mile” in the e-commerce chain a little more convenient for consumers.

The result of a student project of Avans University, the fitting rooms are currently being tested at a few DHL service points in The Hague and Amsterdam. When the idea turns out to be successful, more places will follow. DHL is not the only company launching this idea — Belgian postal service Bpost will soon open their first fitting room in a post office in Ghent. The question is: how awkward will customers feel about it? Physical retailers are currently experiencing a growing trend of people skipping the fitting room and trying their purchase at home. We’re curious to see how the project will develop.
