‘Tokyo-Lization’ Of Major World Cities
Tokyo’s urban landscape can be described as bright, loud, and even chaotic. So what happens when you apply the colorful elements of Japan to other world cities? Daigo Ishii + Future-Scape Architects have re-imagined six world cities through their Worldwide Tokyo-lization Project.
‘Tokyo-lization’ is characterized by Daigo Ischii through the addition of distinctive Japanese aspects to other urban cityscapes. This artistic process pastes elements like cherry blossoms, kiosks, and neon lights into the streets of the United States, Argentina, Denmark, France, Bolivia, and Italy.

Presented at the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale, the project displays an artistic re-imagining of cityscapes. The display in Venice consists of large-scale monitors showing each city after the process of ‘Tokyo-lization’. Daigo Ishii’s project can be seen through November 27, 2016.
