Taking A Trolley Bus To Vanishing Point

The capital of Lithuania along with creative placemaking Studio Vieta has engaged artist Liudas Parulskis to create a work that gives new perspective to his home city. As part of the Vilnius Street Art Festival, he transformed one of the iconic trolley buses that remain a fixture of the city’s urban fabric into a piece of urban art that literally vanishes into the landscape.

Both sides if the trolley bus are covered in a vinyl wrap that perfectly depicts the a perspective of the continuing street behind. The image camouflages perfectly with the street when it crosses the Tumo Saizganto Street and Gediminas Prospect intersection and once a day the audience is invited to capture it at this ‘vanishing point’. As an addition to the streetscape, the image depicts a wolf crossing the road- the symbolic spirit animal of the city since its founding more than 1,000 years ago.

In blending in with the cityscape the project acts as a celebration of the city, true to the intention of the street art festival. The subtle addition of the wolf adds further meaning to the project, referencing a historical and spiritual element. This is a case where the street and art truly collide. Let’s just hope no one else collides with it at the same time.
