Inflatable Concert Hall For Flood-Affected Areas

Indian artist Anish Kapoor and Japanese architect Arata Isozaki joined forces to create the world’s largest inflatable concert hall.

Mean reason to build the giant bubble is to bring new social energy and optimism to Japanese citizens in flood-affected areas who try to get their lives back on track. “We named the Project Ark Nova, or ‘new ark’, with the hope that it will become a symbol of recovery immediately after the great earthquake disaster”, the designers explain.

The Ark Nova was designed for easy transportation — when deflated it fits in a truck. The walls of the structure consist of a stretchy plastic membrane, designed to enable for quick set-up. The inside, which can accommodate up to 500 people, comprises a series of hand-crafted wooden benches and a stage.
