Boudewijn Rückert’s installation is intended to show that nearly every space in Amsterdam can be used as an unofficial hotel room — pointing to the fact that the city’s housing market is struggling, even more so since the launch of Airbnb, which has taken around 15,000 (!) flats out of the city’s housing market. These apartments are rented out to tourists visiting the city, and thus not available for the Amsterdammers themselves — even though urgently needed.
