Concept Store In An Underground Parking Garage
We all know that time when you’re heading out to score yourself a new warderobe. You jump in the car, drive to the shopping mall, park your car in the parking garage, and… walk directly into the store?
THE PARK-ING is one of Tokyo’s coolest new select shops and is located in… right, a basement parking garage. It is the latest store of Hiroshi Fujiwara, who you may know from his previous adventure, The Pool — an old and abandoned swimming pool that has been turned into a fashion store. This time, Fujiwara decided to go with a parking garage as his latest location to set up a trendy fashion boutique.
Fujiwara says that he got the idea for THE PARK-ING one time he walked from his car directly into a restaurant that was located in the same parking garage. This unexpected and unknown experience eventually led him to design a fashion store in a similar location. After an executive at Sony heard about his idea on the radio, Fujiwara was awarded with one of the vacant spaces in the Sony parking garage to realize his store.
THE PARK-ING displays typical mixture of a trendy fashion store and a dull, grey parking garage with a strong presence of concrete and minimalist interior. THE PARK-ING houses some of Japan’s hottest fashion brands, as well as a record store and an accessory shop. With its official opening in March this year, THE PARK-ING appears to have added an entirely new dimension to shopping and retail spaces.
