Blogger Interview 4: Filip Visnjic (Creative Applications)
This Summer we present a series of short interviews here on The Pop-Up City. We invited a number of our favorite bloggers to answer six questions not only about their passion for blogging, but also their city, work experience and inspiration. The result is a collection of stories on blogs and the people behind them. Number 4 in this series is an interview with architect, lecturer and new media technologist Filip Visnjic, founder of the London-based blog Creative Applications. Creative Applications is by far our favorite source for the latest news from the world of new and innovative apps and software.
When and why did you start blogging?
“For the last ten years I spent incredible amounts of time looking at my RSS reader. At the same time I was teaching, pointing students to other people’s work on daily basis. About two years ago I thought I’d just start a blog and write about this work.”
How would you label yourself?
“I try not to, and whenever I try to I end up with something that doesn’t really describe what I do. I think part of the problem is that I do many things and I’ve never been able to clearly define my role. I like projects, in whatever shape and form they are. It’s really about knowledge and its application in a project.”
What does your typical day look like?
“Get woken up by my two-year old daughter around 6.30, make coffee, smoke a cigarette, pack up and go to the studio, arrive around 8-9 am, RSS reader, a blog post, scan email — reply if quick and archive/delete, work on client projects, lunch (if I remember to take it — usually in the studio), RSS reader, blog post, reply to email, client work, go home around 5.30 pm, putting my daughter to bed, dinner, partner time, RSS reader, sleep.”
Which spot(s) would you recommend to a first-time visitor of your city (London)?
“Shoreditch — there is so much here any day of the week.”
What is your top 3 of favorite online sources of inspiration?
“I don’t really have top 3. Inspiration usually comes from talking to people, especially students.
”What shoes do you wear?
“Converse All Star Leather Slim in Light Grey.”
