A False Creek: Visualizing Sea Level Rise In Vancouver

Recently, the City of Vancouver (@CityofVancouver) tweeted about a public art installation under the Cambie Street Bridge:

The installation, by artists Rhonda Weppler and Trevor Mahovsky, is dubbed ‘A False Creek’. Partly a geographical pun (the Cambie Bridge crosses over Vancouver’s False Creek), the piece is a visualization of the projected changes in sea levels over the coming years.

The piece is simple, yet effective, giving the generally-unattractive supports of one of the city’s principal arteries a quick aesthetic upgrade in a highly visible area, while simultaneously making a bold statement about how climate change will affect the world’s coastal cities.
