Shanghai Bomb Shelter Transforms Into An Underground Nightclub
Shanghai is one of the most heavily populated cities in the world (see this funky flowchart). At staggering densities and growth rates, finding good places for setting up a business has become increasingly difficult. The innovative underground music scene has literally gone underground for a unique, edgy club locale.
Thousands of abandoned bomb shelters lie beneath Shanghai, a remnant of Soviet era tensions. The Shelter is a dance club that has taken over one of these bomb shelters. Despite the cool concept, the club has remained part of the underground scene with cheap drinks and frequent visits from burgeoning local and international DJs.
The site is inherently hidden, dark, raw, and oozing with ‘authenticity’ — elements that are so appealing to its clientele. Minimal decorating or publicity is required for the success of this clever underground club.
