The World’s First Fair Phone, Vacuum Cleaner Architecture And More At PechaKucha Amsterdam

As you may know we curate and host the PechaKucha Night Amsterdam besides our Pop-Up City activities. We’re happy to announce a new mind-blowing edition that’s taking place at Roest this Wednesday! Expect fascinating ideas, stories and doses of inspiration by twelve enlightened minds, restricted by the world-famous rule of 20 slides x 20 seconds. Buy a ticket here!

Among our presenters are Gabriel Sebastian, one of the people behind the internationally acclaimed FairPhone, the world’s first mobile phone that’s made under better working conditions and with care for the environment. Thanks to a crowd-funding campaign FairPhone is currently producing its first 20,000 ‘fair’ smartphones. A little less serious will be the 20×20 talk by visual artist Frank Halmans, who transforms all sorts of vacuum cleaners into pieces of architecture. Designer Klaas Kuiken will focus his talk on ‘design for birds’, presenting his beautiful and clever bird house roof tiles.

Another presenter who will definitely steal the show is Olaf Zwetsloot, founder of Hipcescu, an imaginary communist city-state, located on the shores of the Caspian Sea, and ruled by V. Hipcescu, its undisputed leader of whom no known photograph exists. To attract tourists and investors from the Western world, Zwetsloot set up a serious city-marketing campaign that comprises a neat website, a print campaign and postcards, as well as a series of great slogans (some of them are really funny) and even a hymn!

Sounds good, huh? Well, there will be much, much more… Check out the complete line-up here. Doors at Roest open at 20:30, PechaKucha starts around 21:30. Breaks will be filled with funky tunes and kinky visuals. Tickets are available at the door and online — click here to buy. See you this Wednesday!
