The artist uses painted paper as her main material, and creates three-dimensional sculptures in shapes representing geodes, crystal, quartz or any mineral formation that you could normally find in nature. In doing so, Smith reminds passers-by about the beauties of nature, a character often forgotten in hyperdense urban areas such as Los Angeles. The ‘Geodes’ are placed on various locations around Los Angeles, adding a mysterious and adventurous feel to the urban landscape.
“I enjoy the fact that many people will not notice these, but some astute people will; that these will not last forever and the weather will affect them as naturally as it might in nature.”
