Train Ticket To The Movies

Wouldn’t it be nice to have some movie entertainment in trains? However, installing LCD screens behind each seat like in airplanes would be much too expensive. A nice and effective way to solve this problem was shown at the Dutch Design Week with Jeriël Bobbe’s ‘Movie-ng Experience’. Not some projected video on a sound barrier, but a series of images printed on a sound barrier wall to form an old-fashioned silent movie. In front of the printed wall, there is another wall with small openings. Together, the two walls merge to display an encounter from one side, and passing from the other direction shows a goodbye film. That means two different short movies on one track!

“Imagine, you watch a movie. But in this case, it’s not the movie that is moving; it is YOU!!! The first wall, acting as a projector; the second as the filmstrip. As soon as you move along the first wall, you see short flashes of the images on the second wall….Use your train ticket as a cinema ticket! A whole new dimension in watching a movie according to the oldest technique around.”

Bike Design For The Urban Nomad

A group a nine master students presented their City Bike concept at this year's Design Academy graduation show, part of this year's Dutch Design Week. The concept combines a mobile workspace with the Dutch cargo bike. This means that 'urban nomads' no longer have to use their bike to get to their favorite workplace, but their bike becomes a workplace in itself. The cargo part of the bicycle can be transformed into a desk to work on with your laptop. Not bothered with colleagues or loud speaking coffee drinkers, this could be the ultimate form of mobile workplaces...
