Sealing The City

Wonder how to make easy DIY furniture for the urban realm? The French artist Cedric Bernadotte came up with this interventions made from stretch plastic that’s usually being used for the sealing of cargo. The ultra flexible addition to the urban environment should be considered as a contribution to the debate about temporary use of public space. Setting up a shelter, hammock or couch changes perspective of users and stimulates thinking about other use of the streets.

Although most other bloggers that wrote about this project consider the material to be tape, I persist thinking it’s sealing foil. Recently we’ve been doing some tests with this material ourselves, and turned out to be really strong. I’d like to see more of these interventions. This one, by the way, took place in Toulon, France. Check out Cedric’s Flickr stream for more.
