Put A Bird In It

Didn’t we say that design for animals is hot these days? Especially birds and their accommodation needs are a topic of interest for many designers. This community design project from Portland is another neat example.

Under the witty name ‘Put A Bird In It’, designers and artists from around the world were asked to use their creativity to design a unique bird house. The results are pretty nice — click here for a Flickr set with all 96 (!) bird houses. Some of them are very funny.

Each of the bird houses were installed throughout Portland, turning the city’s public space into a bird house exhibition. On 12 October, all bird houses were auctioned off to benefit art and music education in the public schools of Portland and Multnomah County. $6752.29 was raised.
