PICNIC 2012: The New Ownership
Next week, Amsterdam’s brand-new EYE Film Institute will set the stage of PICNIC 2012. This year’s theme is ‘New Ownership’ — the global shift from ‘top-down’ to ‘bottom-up’. PICNIC is one of the world’s most prominent professional conferences in the fields of new media and emerging technology, investigating the role of upcoming media in contemporary society.
“Connected technology is empowering people, businesses and organizations to drive change on a local and global scale. The Internet has increased awareness of issues and social media is providing a stronger ability to take action. A new notion of ownership has emerged: people are taking matters back into their own hands as they realize that everyone can potentially fulfil a role regardless of their position or location.”
PICNIC Festival 2012 will be an international gathering of approximately 3,500 professionals representing business, technology, government and non profit, education and the creative industries. The festival will take place on September 17 and 18 and features a great bunch of speakers including Tim O’Reilly (Founder and CEO, O’Reilly Media Inc.), Rob van Kranenburg (Founder, Council & Author, Internet of Things), and Christopher Lukezic (Director Communications, AirBnB).
