Create Your Own TERRAin

Consumption of household objects can be seen as historically insensitive. The consumer society makes it possible to purchase, use, and dispose of objects quickly. Nucleo wants to change this habit by allowing consumers to construct the product themselves. This idea led to the creation of the TERRA! Grass Armchair.

Nucleo’s work appeared for the first time at the Milan Salone Satellite in 2000, and was selected for the XIX Compasso d’Oro as a ‘Product for the Community’ Award in 2001. The following year it was shown at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, in 2004 at the Triennale in Milan, and then in 2012 at Biennal of Belo Horizonte, Brasil. TERRA! was sold all over the world. The last piece was sold in 2005; the self-production was no longer sustainable and Nucleo decided to abandon production… until now!

Terra

The original concept of TERRA! remains the same, but with some improvements. TERRA! V2.0 is slightly smaller than the previous product to better respond to transport needs and is fully created by laser cutting (panels and graphics). The assembly process was also reviewed to make creation even simpler for the customer.

Through changes in behavior and technology it becomes clear that production needs to take a sustainable approach. Nucleo intends to do this through their natural approach. The relationship between the producer and consumer is also changing. Without having to go through large furniture distribution and manufacturing companies, TERRA! can be produced and delivered to people worldwide.

Terra

Nucleo truly believes that the best way to learn about a product, is to build it yourself. TERRA! is not only functional, it also allows the consumer to build and grow their own product. The consumer has the chance to create their own space, landscape, and experience. The pleasure is found in creating your own place to relax.

Terra

TERRA! creates a hands on connection with nature and the product. The cardboard frame is provided, but the main ingredient is the dirt, allowing the product to be formed anywhere on the planet. The product needs to be assembled, built, and taken care of. In the end, the armchair will grow and become part of the natural landscape. Instead of creating and introducing foreign, unsustainable objects, Nucleo has created a living product that grows naturally and gives back to the physical landscape.
