Backyard Farming In San Francisco

Modern farming is increasingly becoming an urban lifestyle. All over the world residents of metropolitan areas seem to feel the need to reconnect with food and food production. In San Francisco this idea has led to a social network around the topic of gardening.

The San Francisco Garden Registry is a tool created by the San Francisco Victory Garden programme. It provides an social network connecting all city gardens and locating current and potential food production zones within the city of San Francisco. All together, the gardens function as a spatially splintered open source park for urban agriculture.

The programme tries to find out about new, local, environmentally friendly and CO2 neutral food production methods, locally grown. The San Francisco city hall supports the program.
