The Ultimate City Souvenir: Canned Air

We caught wind of some truly wacky city memorabilia, courtesy of the folks at PSFK. Prague artist Kirill Rudenko has created a new way by which people can remember a beloved city — 100% authentic city air captured in a convenient can. The cans come complete with labels, including the make-up of the air, such as the following for Paris:

“20% The Louvre, 20% Notre Dame, 25% Eiffel Tower, 15% Musée d’Orsay, 10% Champs-Elysées, 10% Sacre Coeur. (…) ATTENTION! May contain traces of liberté, égalité and fraternité. The product is 100% bio. Fresh air from Paris relieves stress, cures homesickness
and helps fighting nostalgia. It is made by careful hands in the heart of the city.”

Currently, canned air can be had for Paris, NYC, Prague, Singapore, Berlin and Riga. Canning has long revolutionized how we preserve and store food stuff, from sardines to aerosol cheese, and now it has enabled us to do the same for cities! Well, just the city air, but it is said that the sense most tied to memories is that of smell. Despite all contrivances, this canned air would make an interesting little souvenir for cityophiles.
