Pop-Up Library Serves The Needs Of Book Worms On The Beach

  • For many people the beach is the only place where they really have some time to read a book. Some even go on beach-read holidays and bring bags full of books to sunny beaches. But what to do when you’re on the beach and you want to read, but you forgot to bring a book?

Beaches are usually loaded with ice cream stands, bars for cold drinks and parasol rental services, but buying or renting a book on the beach can be though. To fill this gap, French architect Matali Crasset came up with this pop-up beach library. The simple structure, that consists of tarpaulin draped over a steel frame, offers beach-goers a collection of over 350 books that are selected by Crasset herself.

The collection of the so-called ‘Bibliothèque de Plage’ includes a wide variety of titles for all kinds of people, including some favorite novels of the designer. The flexible shelter features a closet with books in the center and contains three shaded lounge areas that provide cool and comfortable places for readers to hang out. This is not the first pop-up library — we’ve seen crazy amounts of them over the last years. However, this is definitely one of the most functional ones, as it pops up there where people really need it.
