Concept Zoo

Architect David Garcia has designed an innovative concept for a modern zoo. In contradiction to the old zoo, which physically separates animals from man, the new zoos should look for a natural fusion of animals and human creatures. Both should symbiotically merge in space and experience the biological similarities that God has given them, for instance the fact that both have got to eat. Garcia explains:

“If the contemporary aim of zoos is to understand how animals and humans can be enriched by each other, then the proximity between animals and people is essential. This can be done by sharing simple rituals, like eating, resting or training. If these activities are done in the same architectural space, the spatial environment becomes important to both, animals and humans. Architecture is the perfect language to solve the physical challenges of such a proposal. This has to be understood as a serious undertaking and a way to enrich each other’s social necessities while creating new spaces.”

Although my last visit to a zoo has been quite some years ago, I’m sure a concept zoo like this would inspire me to come back sometime. Here I’m not only considering the argument of  animal welfare, but mainly the point of innovation and spectacular experience. (Via Spime.)
