Urban Hacktivist Creates Tram Track Skateboard

With minimal effort, artist Tomáš Moravec managed to turn a standard wooden pallet into a tram track skateboard.

Back in 2008 Moravec noticed that the space between the tram tracks in the Slovakian capital Bratislava is 1200 mm, which is narrower than in most other cities. He also knew that the classic wooden pallet has a dimension of 1200×800 mm. Reason enough for the Czech artist to put four wheels under one of those pallets, and create a new type of skateboard that can ride on the Bratislavan tram tracks.

One of the most interesting aspects of Moravec’s urban vehicle is that it perfectly makes use of an existing layer of infrastructure. “A new transport vehicle brings change to the spatial perspective of a passenger in motion and generally changes the life of the city, through which the pallet can run, guided by a map of the city lines”, says the artist. I guess it’s time now to measure the space between the tram tracks in your city…
