Giant Snow Ramp Pops Up In Antwerp

This weekend the highest snowboard ramp ever built will set the stage for an official freestyle ski and snowboard competition. The pop-up ramp arises in the city of Antwerp, Belgium — not the first place to think of when it comes to wintersport activities!

With a height of 39 meters, a length longer than a football pitch and a total snow surface of 1,600 square meters, the giant ramp will be be setting the stage for the FIS World Cup Big Air. The best freestyle skiers and snowboarders of the world will come together to compete with their most spectacular jumps and tricks in the air.

The giant snow ramp has popped up in Waagnatie, Antwerp’s old industrial and harbor area. As you can see this location is pretty unique for the participants and visitors, since they are used to be surrounded by snow-covered mountains instead of rusty cranes.

Seppe Smits, snowboarder from Antwerp: “For me the VW Big Air Antwerp is a dream come true. It will be the first and probably the only time I can show my sport to my home crowd. On top of that, the designer of the ramp, Erik Ravijts, got me involved in designing the ramp. So I can assure everyone that I will show off the most spectacular jumps. Guaranteed sensation!”
