Residents and others are asked to share their dreams and remember what is important to them. All messages chalked on the wall are a response to the main sentence ‘Before I die…’. This way a bunch of local ambitions, aspirations and wishes for the future are collected. A great thing about the project is that it changes a useless place into a new vibrant spot with some kind of significance to the local community.
The project is located on the corner of Marigny and Burgundy (900 Marigny Street) in New Orleans. Chang believes that the design of our public spaces should better reflect what is important to the residents and users of public space. This theme also characterizes many of other projects of the artist, such as the ‘I wish this was’ project and the ‘Post-It notes for neighbors’ project.
