Gecekondu, Chapter 2: Amsterdam

New chapter of the Gecekondu and Sausalito Almere story! Last week we reported about the Gecekondu summerhouse hotel built by DUS Architects at the beach of Almere, which was part of the Sausalito Almere art village. Unfortunately, top-down interventions made Sausalito disappear. Their seem to be no real societal problems to look after, so the complete maintaining force of police, fire brigade and foresters took their time to hunt for illegal architecture. The project rest its case as the initial idea, which is addressing the issue of overregulation in The Netherlands, has been made.

Gecekondu AmsterdamBut… there is also good news! Meanwhile the summerhouse popped up in Amsterdam, at a spaired housing spot just in between two buildings at the Czaar Peterstraat in the eastern part of the city centre. The summerhouse is still open this summer. For reservations or more information, send an email to gecekondu@dusarchitects.com.
