8 October: Pop-Up City Movie Night At Cavia Amsterdam

Join us for a special and very intimate Pop-Up City screening in Amsterdam at movie theater Cavia on Saturday 8 October! We’ll show Tino Buchholz’s Creativity and the Capitalist City, William de Bruijn’s Amsterdam Make-Over 2040 and we’ll host a post-film discussion. Come along.

Program
Creativity and The Capitalist City by Tino Buchholz. This two-year film project and independent production “is more than a local documentary on Amsterdam. It describes the struggle for affordable space in advanced capitalist cities and its creative exploitation”. Featuring Jamie Peck (Professor of Economic Geography, Vancouver) and Jaap Schoufour (Amsterdam). 55 min.

Amsterdam Make-Over 2040 by William de Bruijn. This documentary questions the ability of ‘mega-regions’ to grow in a  sustainable, environmental-friendly way, while maintaining quality of life and social standards. Featuring economic geographer Richard Florida (Toronto), urban sociologist Saskia Sassen (New York, London) Amsterdam urban planner Zef Hemel, and Professor of landscape architecture and founder of West 8 Adriaan Geuze, critical thinker about planning in the Netherlands. 48 min.

Tino Buchholz (researcher and director of Creativity and the Capitalist City), Jaap Schoufour (head of Breeding Places/Bureau Broedplaatsen Amsterdam) and Dr. Sebastian Olma (founder of The Think Tank) will be in attendance for a post-film discussion.
