The Google Street View Guide To Street Art

You may have heard about the Google Art Project, a tool that gives people virtual tours through some of the finest and most famous museums in the world. But what about street art, our collective museum in public space? Street art has become a serious art form with artists such as Banksy selling pieces for good money.

Brazilian advertising agency Loducca and energy drink Red Bull created the Red Bull Street Art View, an online tool that offers a searchable map of street art that was captured by the Google Street View car. The quality of the image is limited, but it displays the location of the street art so you can have a closer look at it in real life.

The virtual street art museum is totally crowd-sourced and provides additional information such as the artist’s name, the title of the work, the type of street art and comments. With this project, Red Bull Street Art View aims to create “the world’s largest collection”. Nevertheless, the website does not allow users to upload their own photographs — the collection is limited to the places visited by the Google Street Car (or bike).
