Mexican Container Restaurant Pops Up In London

Wahaca, a London-based Mexican restaurant, has just opened its pop-up location in Southbanks.  And how does a pop-up restaurant manage to fit seating for 130 diners?  With shipping containers, of course!  The relatively low height of a container enables the construction of a two-floor restaurant in a very compact space.

Eight recycled shipping containers, covered in artwork by international street artists, were used to create a chic dining space, including glass siding and a cantilevered terrace with stunning views of the Thames.

This project is considered Wahaca’s experimental kitchen where new food specials will be created each month.  After 18 months, the restaurant will change location and the most popular dishes will be added to the regular menu of their fixed locations.  This is one time that I wouldn’t mind being a guinea pig!
