Shipping of a Floating Home

Transport of a Floating Home
The first floating homes enter the new Amsterdam suburb of IJburg. This process goes very slowly, as there are 40 dwellings that have to be shipped from the wharfs of the most experienced ‘floating villas’ builder ABC Arkenbouw to their destination in Amsterdam. Bureaucratic regulations haven’t been very supportive in these, as the transportion has been forbidden for a while. The special ‘Deliver’ used for this job was too deep, according to hard working Dutch servants. (FYI: the Deliver is a boat with a spared space on its deck to transport floating homes.) The house, as you can see on the picture, floats on a fundament of normal white isolation foam held together by a layer of strong concrete.
