Space Making the Sexy Way

Fantasy Space by Ernesto Neto
Brazilian visual artist Ernesto Neto has made this great fantasy space at museum Booijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam. His work is made out of nylon and makes you feel like entering a fairytale. The installation is a composition of large, soft, biomorphic sculptures that fill the exhibition space. Viewers can touch them and even enter the work. To me the work is very inspirational in terms of space design, as Neto sets an almost sultry athmosphere of imagination and safety. It would be great to find more of this sort of spaces around the city. Why, for example, aren’t waiting rooms like this?

The exhibition Brazil Contemporary is currently running in Rotterdam. The expo, which is spread over three locations across the city, shows architecture, design and all different kinds of arts representing the flourishing, modern Brazilian culture. Participating organizations are the Netherlands Architecture Institute (NAi), the contemporary art museum Booijmans van Beuningen and the Photo Museum.
